About bpm string band

BPM String Band

conversational acoustic roots

BPM String Band is a Boston-based, acoustic Roots band made up of world-renowned musicians and lifetime friends Barrett Anderson, Paul Loranger, and Monster Mike Welch.

More Than You'd Think, their debut album, will be released spring 2027, and features this dynamic trio digging deep on 13 tracks of classic Roots, Blues, and Americana.  Special guests include Jason Ricci, Dana Colley (Morphine), Samantha Farrell, Dennis Brennan, and Jeannette Ocampo Welch.

The music is fresh and creative, an engaging conversation between master musicians.

Barrett Anderson

Vocals, Guitar - acoustic, resonator, slide

During a career spanning 3 decades, Boston-based singer and guitarist Barrett Anderson has recorded Billboard-charting albums, toured globally, won awards, and established himself as a beloved fixture of the national and international Blues communities.  Barrett kept Anna Lee company with Levon Helm, traded licks with T-Model Ford at the crossroads, learned slide guitar from Muddy Waters’ bandmates, and Delta Blues from a Son House disciple.  Ronnie Earl proudly calls Barrett his musical son.

“Anderson has the chops and spark to make a real statement his own way.  Hot stuff” (Chris Spector, Midwest Record).

Barrett currently performs with BPM String Band, The Barrett Anderson Band, and Anthony Geraci & The Boston Blues All-Stars.

Paul Loranger

Vocals, Upright Bass

Paul is a roots and groove upright bassist, playing both traditional walking bass lines and slap bass, always played down low and deep in the pocket.

A professional since his twenties, Paul has spent his life touring nationally and internationally , supporting the song and band while providing an unmistakably solid rhythmic foundation.

Monster Mike Welch

Vocals, Guitars - acoustic, 12 string, slide

With over three decades of touring and recording under his belt, Boston-based blues guitarist Monster Mike Welch is a seasoned veteran of the international blues scene.

Given the nickname “Monster Mike” by actor/Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd at the tender age of 13, Welch has since carved out a niche as a highly accomplished and in-demand guitarist.

Welch has recorded multiple albums under his own name, was a 14-year member of New England blues institution Sugar Ray and the Bluetones, created The Welch Ledbetter Connection with Mike Ledbetter, with whom he received 7 Blues Music Award nominations.  He has recorded with Shemekia Copeland, Ronnie Earl, Danielle Nicole, Duke Robillard, Johnny Winter, Victor Wainwright, Nick Moss, the Mannish Boys and Sugaray Rayford, among others.

Welch has received three consecutive Blues Music Award nominations by the Blues Foundation for Instrumentalist-Guitar beginning in 2016, a Boston Music Award for Best Blues Act, and is an inductee of the Rhode Island Music Hall Of Fame.
